Lactobacillus plantarum L-137™ and skin health
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137™, by activating immune cells, supports the production of hyaluronic acid, which is responsible for maintaining optimal skin hydration.[4,14]
A group of scientists conducted a study to assess the impact of Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 on the condition of dry skin and its hydration status. The 12-week study involved 80 people with dry skin who were divided into two groups - placebo and Lactobacillus plantarum L-137. In the Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 group, a decrease in transepidermal water loss from the face and an increase in water content in the skin of the forearm were observed. The greatest improvement was noted in participants who had the driest skin.
Supplementation with Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 may therefore be an effective complement to therapy for dry and dehydrated skin.[1,7]
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 supports the production of hyaluronic acid, retains water in the skin and supports optimal skin hydration.[4,14] Therefore, we can safely say that it supports a younger appearance.

Lactobacillus plantarum L-137™ and immune functions
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137, a strain inactivated by high temperature, may support the defense capabilities of the immune system.
Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 as an immune stimulator in people with weakened immune functions who are more susceptible to infections. Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 also improves immune functions in people with an overactive immune system (allergy sufferers and people suffering from autoimmune diseases). Of the above-mentioned pods, Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 is often called an immunobiotic.[8]
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 has a synergistic effect with Vitamin C, E and beta-glucan. Interleukin-12 production in mouse immune cells stimulated by Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 is visibly enhanced by vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-glucan.[3]
A study conducted in a rat model of metabolic syndrome showed that oral supplementation with Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 had an anti-inflammatory effect on the heart and adipose tissue. The symptoms of heart failure and the amount of fat accumulated under the skin were reduced. A reduction in insulin resistance and a reduction in the level of pro-inflammatory interleukin-6 were also noted.[10]
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 fights gum disease
Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 stimulates immune-boosting cells to start a healing process in the mouth.[12]
The 12-week placebo-controlled, randomized, double-blind clinical trial involved 39 people with chronic periodontitis. Half of the study participants received a placebo and the other half received a capsule containing Lactobacillus plantarum L-137.[9-11,12]
At the beginning of the study, the depth of the dental pocket was measured in all participants (in healthy people it is 3 mm and less).
At the end of the study, in the Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 group, participants with an initial pocket depth of 4 mm or more had a 64% improvement (the depth of the dental pocket decreased) compared to the placebo group.[9-11,12]
The results of this study demonstrate that periodontal disease can be alleviated with oral supplementation of Lactobacillus plantarum L-137.
