Notre société a été programmée pour croire que des problèmes médicaux complexes peuvent être résolus avec des solutions simples.
Tous les lecteurs de cet article ont probablement vu des milliers de publicités télévisées faisant la promotion du soulagement immédiat des douleurs arthritiques en prenant la bonne marque d'aspirine, l'ibuprofène, l'acétaminophène ou le naproxène.
Si un arthritique prend régulièrement l'un de ces analgésiques (à des doses approuvées par la FDA), il risque de subir des effets indésirables représentant un danger de mort, tels qu'une insuffisance rénale, une insuffisance hépatique ou une hémorragie gastrique.1-8
En revanche, les approches naturelles, telles que l'huile de poisson et la curcumine, apportent de nombreux avantages permettant de sauver des vies, en plus de soulager l'inconfort chronique des articulations9-40.
L'industrie pharmaceutique s'est concentrée sur le développement d'une seule intervention médicamenteuse à la fois pour traiter une cause sous-jacente de l'arthrite. La leucotriène B4 détruit le cartilage des articulations. L'enzyme qui convertit l'acide arachidonique en leucotriène B4 dans l'organisme s'appelle la 5-LOX (5-lipoxygénase).68,69 Des méthodes sûres pour inhiber la 5-LOX et la production ultérieure de leucotriène B4 doivent être suivies d'un régime alimentaire pauvre en acide arachidonique et complétées par des nutriments comme la curcumine, le boswellia et l'huile de poisson. 70-83
Le facteur nucléaire kappaB déclenche la production de molécules inflammatoires systémiques qui attaquent les membranes des articulations. Le facteur nucléaire kappaB (NF-kB) peut être supprimé à l'aide d'extraits de plantes comme l'ail, le gingembre, la curcumine et la silymarine, ainsi que de concentrés d'huile de poisson et d'antioxydants.61-63, 84-91
Le vieillissement entraîne souvent une perte accélérée du cartilage des articulations protectrices. Les nutriments qui aident à reconstruire le cartilage incluent la glucosamine, la chondroïtine et le MSM (méthylsulfonylméthane).92-104 Il est peu probable que ces nutriments obtiennent des résultats complets si des facteurs inflammatoires chroniques continuent d’attaquer le cartilage des articulations.
Des recherches récentes suggèrent que la "sensibilité" au système immunitaire joue un rôle important dans l'arthrose105. L'hyperréactivité du système immunitaire (auto-immunité) joue depuis longtemps un rôle important dans la polyarthrite rhumatoïde106,107. Des recherches de pointe sur l'arthrose la plus répandue suggèrent que les cellules T "sensibilisées" attaquent le collagène des articulations et contribuent directement aux lésions articulaires.106-108
Le collagène de type II non dénaturé à faible dose (40 mg) aide à réguler la fonction immunitaire de sorte que les cellules T ne deviennent pas «sensibilisées» et n'attaquent pas le cartilage des articulations108-110.
L'acide hyaluronique est un composant majeur du tissu articulaire. Sa fonction naturelle est de lubrifier et d’amortir l’articulation contre les impacts répétés.111 Il est également impliqué dans la régénération du cartilage. L’un des effets notables de l’acide hyaluronique est d’inhiber une enzyme appelée matrice métalloprotéinase-13 qui dégrade le cartilage des articulations.112-114 L'acide hyaluronique n'absorbe pas bien par lui-même, mais lorsqu'il est dissous dans une solution riche en phospholipides115 telle que l'huile de krill, son absorption est améliorée.
Les cytokines inflammatoires telles que le facteur de nécrose tumorale alpha attaquent directement les muqueuses articulaires. L’huile de krill réduit l’infiltration de cytokines destructrices dans le revêtement des articulations.116, 117 L'astaxanthine réduit la production de cytokines inflammatoires.118-120
Le dysfonctionnement mitochondrial interfère avec les processus de réparation juvéniles au niveau de l'articulation.121 Les nutriments qui protègent la fonction des mitochondries incluent l'acide lipoïque CoQ10,122-125, la carnitine 126-130, la 130-134 et la pyroloquinoléine quinone).

La prostaglandine E1 est une substance naturelle ressemblant à une hormone qui supprime l'inflammation. Il provient d'un acide gras appelé acide gamma-linolénique (GLA) que l'on obtient dans leur régime alimentaire ou par le biais de suppléments comme l'huile de bourrache ou l'huile d'onagre.145 Que l'AGL se convertisse en acide arachidonique pro-inflammatoire ou en prostaglandine E1 anti-inflammatoire est déterminé par une enzyme du corps régulée par les lignanes au sésame.146-151 Ceux qui obtiennent des lignanes au sésame dans leurs suppléments en bénéficient déjà, car le GLA obtenu à partir de sources alimentaires est plus susceptible de se convertir en prostaglandine E1.
